What New Students Should Expect in Week One
Starting something new can feel exciting and a little nerve-racking, especially when it is martial arts. At Wadoka Academy, we want every new student to feel welcomed, supported, and confident from day one.
As we continue building and growing, we are currently training out of Jane Finch Mall. Week one is all about getting comfortable, learning the basics, and understanding the culture of our dojo.
A Warm Welcome
From the moment you arrive, you can expect a friendly and respectful environment. We know that stepping into a martial arts class for the first time can be intimidating, so our goal is to make the experience simple and encouraging.
You will be greeted, shown where to go, and guided through the class structure so you know exactly what to expect.
Learning the Basics
In your first week, the focus is not on being perfect. It is about getting familiar with:
- how to line up and begin class
- basic dojo etiquette and respect
- simple stances and movements
- beginner techniques and drills
- how to listen, follow instruction, and build confidence
Every student starts somewhere. Week one is about building a foundation.
Our Training Environment
Since we are currently operating out of Jane Finch Mall, students should expect a practical training setup with the same high standards, discipline, and positive atmosphere that define Wadoka Academy.
What matters most is not the building. It is the quality of the instruction, the consistency of the training, and the community we are building together.
What to Wear and Bring
For week one, new students should come ready to move and learn.
Bring:
- comfortable workout clothes
- a water bottle
- a positive attitude
- willingness to try something new
If a uniform is not yet required, we will let you know when and how to get one.
Expect to Be Encouraged
No one expects you to know everything in your first week. You may feel a little awkward at first, and that is completely normal. Our instructors are here to help you every step of the way.
You can expect correction, encouragement, patience, and support. Progress comes with practice.
More Than Kicks and Punches
At Wadoka Academy, training is about more than physical techniques. From your very first week, you will begin learning the habits that martial arts helps develop:
- focus
- discipline
- self-control
- confidence
- respect
These lessons carry beyond class and into everyday life.
Your First Week Is Just the Beginning
Week one is about getting started. You do not need to have experience. You do not need to be in perfect shape. You just need to show up ready to learn.
We are excited to welcome new students into our community at Jane Finch Mall and help each person begin their martial arts journey the right way.
Your first week is not about being the best. It is about taking the first step.
